Survivors

Each year, more than 350,000 out of hospital cardiac arrest occur in the United States. When a person has a cardiac arrest, survival depends on receiving CPR immediately.  If CPR is performed immediately it can double or triple a cardiac arrest victim’s chance to survive.

Anyone can perform Hands-Only CPR.  If you have to perform CPR in an emergency you will most likely be trying to save the life of a loved one: a child, spouse, parent or a friend.

Hands-Only CPR has two easy steps. First (1) call 911 if you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse and second (2) Push hard and fast in the center of the chest until help arrives.  When performing CPR push on the chest at a rate of 100 – 120 compressions per minute.  A song such as, “Stayin’ Alive” can help you push to the correct rate.

SaveMIHeart and community partners encourages everyone to learn Hands-Only CPR.
