Recognition Award Recipients

The individuals listed below were awarded the CARES  Participation or Excellence Award for their dedication to collecting out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) data for quality improvement purposes.  Each year, approximately 300,000 persons in the United States experience an OHCA.  The Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES) is a national cardiac arrest registry that allows communities to measure the effectiveness of their emergency response systems and identify opportunities to improve quality of care. Participation in a national registry is recommended by the Institute of Medicine.

These individuals successfully participated in CARES and have been recognized for data collection and quality improvement efforts.  Participation in CARES allows for measurement of both bystander and 911 response, including information about bystander CPR and AED application, telephone CPR, and EMS response times.  Using this information, EMS/Hospitals/Dispatch Centers can discover promising practices and implement new programs to improve emergency care for patients in their communities.

Their dedication to collecting OHCA data has helped strengthen collaboration between 911 centers, first responders, EMS agencies and hospitals, with the ultimate goal of improving survival rates. For more information on CARES and the benefits of cardiac arrest data collection, please see the CARES website (https://mycares.net).
